American University in Cairo welcomes diverse record-breaking class
The American University in Cairo (AUC) has ushered in the 2025–2026 academic year with a spirited welcome for more than 1,100 new undergraduate and graduate students from Egypt and over 60 countries worldwide, reaffirming its status as one of the Middle East’s most vibrant international academic communities.
AUC’s incoming class is a testament to the university’s commitment to diversity and academic rigor. Students hail from across the globe—including the United States, Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, France, and Nigeria—drawn by the university’s world-class liberal arts curriculum, innovative programs, and strong reputation for academic excellence. Within Egypt, the university continues to be a magnet for students from all regions of the country, ensuring a rich blend of local and international perspectives on campus.
President Ahmad Dallal, in a message to the university community, noted a remarkable increase in applications this year—a clear sign of AUC’s growing prestige amid a competitive international landscape. “Our freshman class includes top performers across all degrees, including some of Egypt’s highest achievers, and we are proud to award more than 360 scholarships to 256 students, with 58 receiving full-tuition scholarships through our Excellence Scholarship program,” Dallal said.
The university has also welcomed a distinguished cohort of new faculty from more than eight countries—including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany, the United Kingdom, Lebanon, Australia, and Egypt—across 16 fields. These new experts bring fresh perspectives to academic disciplines ranging from the arts and humanities to science and engineering, promising a dynamic learning and research environment for all.
Engineering remains one of the most popular faculties at AUC, with programs in mechanical, electronics and communications, architecture, computer, and construction engineering ranking as top choices among students—mirroring global trends in higher education and industry demands.
For many students, AUC’s liberal arts approach and innovative, state-of-the-art campus clinched their decision. Khadijah Abdallah, a holder of the Dogwood Diploma and a new AUC student, described the university as “a three-in-one opportunity” thanks to its alumni network, advanced curriculum, and inspiring grounds. “I wanted a strong film program, but also the freedom to explore other creative paths and AUC’s liberal arts education is the best way for me to do that,” she shared.
Similarly, Hanan Osama, an American Diploma graduate, praised AUC’s interdisciplinary opportunities. “I loved the idea of studying scientific subjects such as psychology or biology alongside my major,” she said. “AUC has been my dream since grade 10, and I am beyond grateful I’ve achieved it.”
The new academic year promises a wealth of opportunities for learning, personal growth, and pioneering research. With its continuously expanding network of accomplished students and faculty, the American University in Cairo continues to champion innovation, cultural understanding, and educational excellence at the heart of the region.
