Egypt FM discusses regional tensions, de‑escalation in calls with Gulf, European ministers
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held phone calls with his counterparts from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg to discuss rising regional tensions and ways to prevent further escalation, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The talks, which took place on March 8, focused on the rapidly evolving situation in the region amid what the ministry described as “dangerous military escalation” with serious security, economic and political implications both regionally and globally.
Abdelatty urged coordinated regional and international efforts to de‑escalate and prioritise political solutions, warning that any widening of military operations would pose “grave challenges” to the stability of the entire region. He reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of attacks against the sovereignty and security of Arab states, calling for an immediate end to such actions and cautioning against the region slipping into wider turmoil.
He also conveyed Egypt’s condolences to Kuwait following the deaths of two members of its border security forces.
The ministers agreed to maintain close coordination in the coming period and to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions. According to the statement, the foreign ministers of Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role in facilitating the evacuation of their nationals and other foreign citizens from the region via Egyptian territory.
