Egypt and Pakistan explore enhanced pharmaceutical partnership

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) and Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) have held high-level talks aimed at boosting cooperation and strengthening pharmaceutical partnerships between the two countries.

During a meeting in Cairo, EDA Chairman Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy welcomed his Pakistani counterpart, Dr. Obaidullah, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to expanding its global pharmaceutical competitiveness and openness to international collaboration. Dr. El-Ghamrawy highlighted Pakistan as a key strategic partner in Asia and reaffirmed the EDA’s dedication to aligning with global best practices, supporting Egypt’s vision to emerge as a regional pharmaceutical hub and exporter.

The discussions explored avenues for joint work in regulatory system development, exchange of technical expertise, and innovative methods for supporting access to essential medicines in both countries. Areas such as training, capacity building, and regulatory harmonization featured prominently, with both sides recognizing the potential to bolster regional integration and improve health outcomes.

Dr. Obaidullah expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised the EDA’s achievements, including its recognition by the World Health Organization for reaching Maturity Level 3 in regulatory oversight—a significant milestone that underscores Egypt’s leadership in the sector. He voiced his enthusiasm for advancing collaboration, saying it would help ensure the safe and effective delivery of medicines for citizens of both nations.

Senior officials from both authorities attended the meeting, including Dr. Amani Gowdat, EDA Deputy Head, and Dr. Basant Ahmed from the International Cooperation Department, who reviewed expanded areas for institutional cooperation and regulatory knowledge exchange.

This initiative reflects the EDA’s ongoing role as a regional and international leader in pharmaceutical regulation and its commitment to building robust health systems that contribute to sustainable development.
