Former UN Secretary-General visits the Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum welcomed Mr. Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, accompanied by his delegation, during his official visit to Cairo. His Excellency Mr. Kim Yong-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, was also in attendance.

Mr. Ban and his delegation were received by Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests.

The tour included the museum’s exterior plaza, main hall, the majestic Grand Staircase, as well as the principal galleries, which collectively narrate the evolution of ancient Egyptian civilization—from the early dynastic periods through subsequent historical eras, including the Greek and Roman periods—through a modern, immersive exhibition design.

Mr. Ban Ki-moon expressed his deep admiration for the museum’s organization and rich cultural offerings. He praised the outstanding efforts invested in creating this unique cultural landmark, which houses exceptional and rare artifacts that help to introduce the world to the grandeur of ancient Egypt.

He also commended Egypt’s modern vision for heritage preservation and its commitment to fostering global cultural dialogue.
