Egypt revives Nasr auto with new locally made buses

In a significant move to revive Egypt’s automotive industry, Minister of Public Enterprises Eng. Mohamed El-Shimy conducted an official visit to Nasr Automotive Company in Helwan on Tuesday.

The visit focused on progress in modernizing the bus factory, recently relaunched as part of a national initiative to strengthen local industry and reduce dependence on imports.

During the visit, Minister Shimi oversaw the handover of a new fleet of locally manufactured “Nasr Sky” buses to Sohag University, marking the university as the first in Egypt to utilize these domestically produced vehicles.

The event highlighted growing collaboration between Egypt’s industrial and academic sectors to support local manufacturing.

Minister Shimy emphasized that Nasr Automotive, a historic industrial pillar since 1959, is being transformed to meet global quality standards, with 60% local content in the buses. He noted that the revival of the bus plant is a major milestone as Nasr resumes production after a 15-year hiatus, supporting Egypt’s aims to localize heavy industry under presidential directives.

Sohag University President Dr. Hassan Al-Numani praised the quality and safety features of the new buses, describing their introduction as a historic achievement aligned with Egypt’s goal of becoming a regional automotive hub.

In addition, the minister inspected the final preparations at the passenger car plant, which has been equipped with new assembly, welding, and painting lines ahead of the upcoming launch of full-scale vehicle production.

The relaunch of Nasr is expected to boost national industry, expand export potential, attract new investment in the automotive sector, and advance Egypt’s strategy for sustainable industrial growth.
