China FM calls for enhanced dialogue to foster global civilizational cooperation
Beijing, China — During a video address at a United Nations event commemorating the inaugural International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored the importance of fostering exchanges and cooperation among world civilizations to address shared global challenges.
The event, established by unanimous resolution at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly and celebrated on June 10, aims to promote understanding and interaction among the diverse cultures and societies that comprise the global community, according to a statement obtained by The Nile Observer from the Chinese Embassy in Cairo.
In his remarks, Minister Wang emphasized the unique vibrancy and interconnectedness of world civilizations, describing humanity as an "indivisible community with a shared future."
He noted that, amid profound transformations and uncertainties worldwide, the value of civilizational dialogue has become more significant than ever.
"Dialogue among civilizations is a bond for peace, a driver for development, and a bridge of friendship," Wang stated. He commended the UN initiative, expressing that the new international observance reflects the common aspirations of nations to foster human progress and strengthen global cooperation.
Highlighting China’s efforts in this area, Minister Wang referenced President Xi Jinping's Global Civilization Initiative, which calls for upholding shared human values, balancing tradition with innovation, and deepening international exchanges and cooperation.
Wang Yi highlighted three main points for encouraging dialogue between different civilizations.
First, he said that all civilizations should be treated equally. This means respecting the choices that people in different countries make about how they develop and govern themselves. He stressed that there should not be any conflict between civilizations, interference in each other's affairs, or bullying. He also said it is important to be fair, just, and to work together through the United Nations.
Second, he encouraged more exchanges and learning between different cultures. He believes that by learning from each other, countries can solve global problems and find new ways to move forward together. He shared that China is thinking about hosting the Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations in 2028, and will keep supporting other international platforms like the Ancient Civilizations Forum.
Finally, Wang talked about the need to help civilizations progress. He called for more sharing of ideas, technology, and expertise around the world. He also said that new technologies, like artificial intelligence, should be used responsibly to help all people move forward and make progress together.
The establishment of the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations was proposed by China and 82 other countries, and was unanimously adopted by all member states. Foreign Minister Wang concluded his address by reaffirming China’s commitment to building a community where all civilizations can prosper together in peace and mutual respect.
