President El-Sisi reaffirms Egypt’s steadfast support for Libya in meeting with Parliament Speaker
CAIRO – In a meeting held today in Cairo, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Mr. Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, for talks focused on the latest developments in Libya. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Hamid Al-Safi, Political Advisor to the Libyan Parliament Speaker, and Egyptian General Intelligence Chief, Major General Hassan Rashad.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for Libya and its national institutions. He emphasized the vital importance of safeguarding Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and he stressed the need for unified efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution to the ongoing crisis.
President El-Sisi called for the holding of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible, underlining that this crucial step would help fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability, security, and a dignified life.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy highlighted President El-Sisi’s commitment to continued coordination with all Libyan leaders and international partners. The President expressed Egypt’s belief that Libya’s stability is closely linked to Egypt’s own security and stability. He strongly advocated for the departure of all foreign forces from Libya, seeing this as a critical measure for strengthening Libya’s security and empowering its institutions to restore stability across the country.
Furthermore, President El-Sisi voiced Egypt’s keen interest in contributing to the reconstruction and development of Libya, offering to share Egyptian expertise to support Libya’s journey toward prosperity.
For his part, Speaker Aguila Saleh expressed deep appreciation for the long-standing historical and fraternal relations between the two nations. He acknowledged President El-Sisi’s pivotal role and Egypt’s continued support as a cornerstone for re-establishing peace and guiding Libya toward successful elections and a stable future.
