Arab League praises Belarus’ supportive stance on Palestinian rights
Arab League Assistant
Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories
Sector Ambassador Faed Mustafa praised Belarus’ principled positions in support
of the Palestinian people and their legitimate and inalienable rights, foremost
among them the right to self-determination.
Mustafa highlighted
Belarus’ “positive and advanced positions” as one of the first countries to recognize
the State of Palestine in 1988, as well as its consistent support for the
Palestinian cause in international forums, in line with principles of justice
and fairness and relevant international law and UN resolutions.
This came during a
meeting held on Wednesday between the Arab League official and Belarusian
Ambassador to Egypt Yevgeny Sobolevsky, to discuss the latest developments in
the Palestinian issue and the situation in the region, and to explore ways to
advance efforts toward achieving a just, lasting and comprehensive peace based
on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian
state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
During the meeting,
Mustafa warned of the seriousness of the situation in the occupied West Bank
amid Israeli practices, including the acceleration of settlement expansion,
annexation plans, restrictions on Palestinians, desecration of Islamic and
Christian holy sites, settler violence and escalating violations against
Palestinian prisoners.
He also highlighted
the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and its worsening
conditions, stressing the urgent need for immediate international intervention
to protect and assist the Palestinian people, ensure the sustained flow of
humanitarian aid, secure funding and protection for UNRWA, and support the
Palestinian Authority.
Mustafa called for an
end to what he described as continued violations of international and
humanitarian law, and the end of the illegal occupation of Palestinian and Arab
territories since 1967, affirming that the establishment of a Palestinian state
remains the only viable path to peace and stability in the region.
For his part,
Ambassador Yevgeny Sobolevsky emphasized the depth of Arab-Belarusian relations
and the importance of strengthening them.
He reaffirmed Belarus’
commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums,
providing humanitarian relief to Gaza, and backing diplomatic efforts aimed at
achieving peace, security and stability in the Middle East.
