Egypt hosts major “Strongman” International Championship in Alamein

The vibrant city of New Alamein was alive with excitement as Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, attended the international “Strongman” championship, an event that brought together 2,000 athletes from across the globe, celebrating strength, determination, and the spirit of inclusivity.

Organized by the Egyptian Street Sports and Competitive Fitness Federation, the championship energized audiences with fierce yet friendly competitions across multiple categories for men and youth, including heavyweight and various other divisions. The contagious enthusiasm spread throughout the event, drawing in large, supportive crowds and showcasing Egypt’s growing passion for competitive fitness and street sports.

A shining highlight of this year’s championship was the inspiring participation from athletes with disabilities, reflecting a wonderful commitment to diversity and community support within the Egyptian sports sector. These remarkable athletes, from the Federation for Physical Fitness and Intellectual Disabilities, demonstrated extraordinary skill and spirit through their impressive performances in both physical training and beach games—captivating the hearts of everyone present.

Minister Sobhy emphasized the importance of such large-scale events, noting that, “Organizing a championship of this scale highlights the rapid development of street sports and competitive fitness in Egypt. It supports the national goal of encouraging sports culture across all segments of society.” He also reinforced the ministry’s dedication to fully integrating people with disabilities into the national sports system, ensuring their valuable presence in all sporting initiatives.

The event is part of the wider “EGY Fit” initiative, launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to spread the culture of fitness and healthy competition throughout Egypt. The ambitious program aims to engage 10 million participants from families across the country, promoting exercise and wellness at home, in clubs, and on the streets—fostering not only health, but also social and cultural awareness, while inspiring communities to leave behind negative habits like smoking.

Several distinguished officials attended the event, including Dr. Amr El Haddad, Head of the Central Administration for Sports Development, and representatives from various sports federations, signaling widespread institutional support for Egypt’s thriving sports movement.

The international “Strongman” championship in Alamein stands as a powerful example of Egypt’s commitment to inclusion, community, and the future of sporting excellence for all.
