A celebration of Turkish wedding traditions at Cairo’s Abdeen Palace: A cultural and charitable extravaganza
In a vibrant fusion of culture, history, and philanthropy, Cairo’s historic Abdeen Palace will host a grand exhibition and performance celebrating Turkish wedding traditions on November 19, 2025.
Organized by the Turkish Embassy in Cairo, this unique event will showcase the rich heritage of Anatolian wedding customs while raising funds for humanitarian aid in Gaza.
The event, set to take place in the opulent Grand Hall of Abdeen Palace—often referred to as Egypt’s Dolmabahçe—will feature a stunning display of traditional Turkish wedding dresses and rituals, curated by the Izmir Development Institute under Turkey’s Ministry of National Education.
Models will parade intricately designed gowns, each reflecting the distinctive characteristics of Turkey’s diverse Anatolian regions, offering a visual journey through centuries-old traditions. The program will also include a theatrical presentation of Turkish wedding ceremonies, immersing attendees in the vibrant customs of Anatolia.
Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Saleh Mutlu Şen, announced the event on his official X account, expressing gratitude to Mrs. Naglaa Abdel-Salam, spouse of Egypt’s Foreign Minister, for her support in hosting this charitable gala.
The event is under the patronage of Mrs. Abdel-Salam from the Egyptian side and Mrs. Ayşen Balçık Şen, spouse of the Turkish Ambassador, who is overseeing preparations. Ambassador Şen highlighted the historical significance of Abdeen Palace, founded by Khedive Ismail, who spent his final decade in Istanbul and owned a palace there, underscoring the deep historical ties between Egypt and Turkey.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Egyptian Red Crescent to support humanitarian efforts for the people of Gaza, making this event a meaningful blend of cultural celebration and social good. Turkish investors in Egypt are also backing the initiative, amplifying its impact.
This gala builds on the success of a smaller-scale event held in June 2025 at the residence of the Turkish Ambassador in Cairo, themed “We Have a Wedding.” The overwhelming response to that event prompted Egyptian participants to request a larger showcase at Abdeen Palace.
With its rich history and shared cultural heritage—Egypt and Turkey share over a millennium of intertwined history—this event is poised to strengthen cultural bonds while introducing Egyptian audiences to the beauty of Turkish traditions.
The Abdeen Palace gala promises to be a landmark occasion, blending art, history, and philanthropy in a setting that embodies the elegance of Egypt’s past and the shared legacy of two nations. For those eager to experience this cultural bridge and contribute to a worthy cause, the event is a must-attend highlight of Cairo’s 2025 cultural calendar.
