Egypt’s national power grid hits record peak
For the first time in its history, Egypt’s national electricity grid has accommodated a record peak load of 39,400 megawatts, surpassing last year’s highest recorded demand by 1,400 megawatts, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Dr. Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, credited strict adherence to quality standards, robust maintenance programs, and new operational procedures for the grid’s ability to meet soaring consumption levels. “Through precise monitoring across the entire electricity network and the dedicated presence of company leaders and technical teams day and night, we have been able to ensure reliable and steady service for our citizens,” said Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, a senior official with the ministry.
On Sunday, Egypt’s national power grid reached an all-time high load of 39,400 MW, up from 38,800 MW the previous day. This sharp climb sets a new benchmark not only for Egypt, but regionally as well, as demand continues to grow due to rising temperatures and increased electricity usage.
Officials attribute the grid’s resilience to a comprehensive emergency plan implemented over the past year. This includes performance improvements, global-standard maintenance initiatives, and the adoption of advanced operational protocols. As a result, the national control center reports that Egypt’s electricity infrastructure has been able to withstand daily spikes in consumption—much higher and earlier in the year than previously observed.
The ministry continues to prioritize the security and stability of the power supply. Technical and emergency response teams, along with health and safety inspectors, remain on high alert to maintain uninterrupted service to homes, businesses, and critical facilities throughout the country.
Dr. Esmat emphasized ongoing efforts to engage directly with subscribers through enhanced complaint management systems, swift response teams, and a commitment to resolving issues as quickly as possible. “By upholding the highest standards and applying the latest innovations in electricity management, we are determined to keep improving our service for every Egyptian,” he said.
This milestone comes as Egypt continues its ambitious investments in electricity infrastructure, aiming to support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for all citizens.
