High-level Egypt-Jordan summit stresses shared solutions for regional stability
AMMAN – Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Jordanian counterpart, Dr. Jaafar Hassan, co-chaired the 33rd session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Joint Committee on Tuesday, emphasizing the longstanding partnership and ongoing collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
The expanded talks, which were attended by senior ministers and officials from both Cairo and Amman, focused on deepening economic cooperation across key sectors such as trade, transport, tourism, and renewable energy. The leaders also discussed broader political issues of shared concern, most notably the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the future of the Palestinian cause.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Hassan welcomed Dr. Madbouly and the Egyptian delegation to Amman, highlighting the regular convening of the joint committee as a testament to the wisdom and vision of both countries’ leadership. “The Egyptian-Jordanian committee stands as a model for Arab cooperation,” Dr. Hassan observed, praising Egypt’s significant role in supporting the Palestinian people and efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to addressing regional challenges, including coordination between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq within their trilateral cooperation framework—a mechanism they agreed needs further activation.
The Jordanian Prime Minister also noted Jordan’s ongoing efforts to regulate labor employment within the country, clarifying that these measures are not intended to reduce the presence of Egyptian workers, who make up a significant part of Jordan’s workforce.
During the meeting, Dr. Hassan expressed Jordan’s aspiration to establish a new administrative city for government institutions and voiced interest in leveraging Egypt’s expertise gained through the construction of its New Administrative Capital. Dr. Madbouly responded affirmatively, expressing eagerness to collaborate on the ambitious project.
Dr. Madbouly praised the deep ties between the two nations, extending greetings from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to King Abdullah II of Jordan, and emphasizing the unity and common future of the Egyptian and Jordanian peoples. The Egyptian premier reiterated the ongoing cooperation between Cairo and Amman in support of the Palestinian cause, including joint coordination with Qatar and the United States to advance a ceasefire and plans to host an early recovery and reconstruction conference for Gaza.
Both leaders discussed their dedication to expanding joint investments and enhancing the region’s power connectivity, which they believe will benefit multiple countries. Egypt also renewed its support for Jordan’s security and stability and expressed appreciation for Jordan’s treatment of Egyptian workers residing in the Kingdom.
The session concluded with a mutual commitment to further strengthen Egyptian-Jordanian relations and maintain robust coordination to address regional challenges, underscoring a shared vision of stability and prosperity for the region.
