Egypt urges de-escalation in calls with US, Iran

CAIRO – As part of intensified efforts to de-escalate mounting military tensions between Israel and Iran, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held two important phone calls on Tuesday.

He spoke separately with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, and with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Minister Abdelatty emphasized in both calls the urgent need for all parties to focus on de-escalating the situation and pursuing political and diplomatic solutions.

He stressed that these efforts are vital to containing the ongoing crisis and preventing its spread, which could endanger the entire Middle East.

Minister Abdelatty also highlighted the need for an immediate ceasefire and a prompt return to negotiations, viewing dialogue as the only sustainable path to reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

He firmly insisted that there are no military solutions to the current crises facing the region, adding that any further expansion of conflict would only lead to greater chaos and harm for everyone involved.

These calls reflect Egypt’s continued commitment to regional stability, and its active engagement with major international and regional players in the search for peace and diplomatic resolution.
