Somalia condemns hijacking of "Sea World" vessel off Puntland Coast
Mogadishu – The Somali government has strongly condemned the recent hijacking of the "Sea World" ship, which was sailing under the Comoros flag, off the coast of Puntland State. The vessel was carrying commercial goods owned by Somali businessmen.
In a statement issued today via the Somali Ministry of Information, authorities emphasized their constitutional duty to protect national security both at sea and on land, citing Article 54 of the Somali provisional constitution. The statement attributed responsibility for the attack to a group operating in the Puntland region, calling the act a direct violation of the country’s provisional constitution and a threat to Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and independence.
The government has called for immediate action and cooperation from local and international partners to secure the release of the vessel and to ensure the safety of the crew and cargo.
