United States returns to Cairo International Book Fair

The United States marked its official return to the Cairo International Book Fair this week, as U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Evyenia Sidereas launched the American pavilion at the 57th edition of the renowned event.

Sidereas celebrated the occasion by touring the event, meeting visitors, and exploring the embassy’s exhibit.

“We’re delighted to be back at the Cairo International Book Fair for the first time since 2019,” Sidereas said.

“This fair is about more than books—it’s a platform to showcase the best of our literary, historical, and artistic cultures, and to build bridges between our communities. We’re proud to highlight American literature and innovation at this global gathering.”

The U.S. pavilion features a curated selection of American books translated into Arabic, interactive activities exploring American culture, daily talks by American diplomats and exchange program alumni, as well as virtual reality tours of American cities. Visitors can also learn about exchange programs and opportunities to study English.

This year’s participation aligns with the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations, providing a timely opportunity to highlight the ongoing role of American literature in inspiring readers and nurturing mutual understanding across cultures.

The Cairo International Book Fair is one of the largest and oldest in the Arab world, welcoming millions of visitors each year and serving as an important platform for cultural exchange and dialogue on an international scale.
