Arab Parliament condemns “organized terror” in Gaza, calls on world to redefine terrorism
At a recent United Nations meeting on global terrorism threats, the Arab Parliament voiced grave concern over what it described as “organized and official terrorism” carried out by Israeli authorities in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
In a heartfelt address, Arab Parliament Member Nasser Abu Bakr spoke during a virtual session hosted by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. The meeting, which gathered experts and parliamentary representatives from around the world, focused on emerging trends and new challenges in the field of counter-terrorism.
Mr. Abu Bakr stressed that the world is now facing what he called “a dangerous new phase that is redefining the concept of terrorism in its harshest form.” He argued that, when acts of violence and intimidation are conducted as official policy, as in the case of the Israeli occupation in Gaza and the West Bank, it constitutes a clear violation of international norms.
He drew particular attention to over a year and a half of ongoing violence, saying, “The crimes being perpetrated by the occupation cannot be described as anything but blatant, organized state terrorism.” He cited numerous alleged violations, including deliberate targeting of civilians, the imposition of blockades and hunger, and the use of military force against the most vulnerable segments of society—women, children, and the elderly.
The Arab Parliament’s statement calls for the international community to act with both urgency and compassion to protect innocent lives and uphold human dignity, regardless of nationality or creed.
As the conflict in Gaza continues to bring suffering to countless families, voices within the United Nations and beyond are urging a renewed, collective effort for peace, accountability, and the protection of every human being.
