Egypt’s Sisi champions religious reform and social awareness initiatives

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a high-level meeting today with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Religious Endowments Dr. Osama Al-Azhari to discuss key strategies aimed at promoting moderate religious awareness and strengthening Egypt’s social values.

According to a statement from the Presidential spokesperson, the meeting focused on recent initiatives by the Ministry of Religious Endowments, most notably the “Correct Your Concepts” campaign. This awareness drive is at the heart of Egypt’s efforts to foster enlightened religious and societal understanding, counter false beliefs, and address both religious and non-religious forms of extremism that affect community values and morals.

President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of ongoing monitoring and collaboration with state institutions and civil society to ensure the initiative’s successful implementation and to achieve its national objectives.

Dr. Al-Azhari also briefed President El-Sisi on the ministry’s comprehensive strategy for renewing religious discourse. This four-part plan targets confronting all forms of religious extremism, addressing negative behaviors and the erosion of values, fostering human development, and encouraging cultural advancement. The Minister presented an official document outlining practical steps to offer a balanced, humane religious message that promotes peace, safety, and tolerance.

The meeting included an update on the Ministry’s new digital platform, designed to present reliable religious content, counter extremist ideologies, and support public awareness. The platform offers resources on Islamic scholarship, positive behavioral initiatives, and social campaigns against issues such as bullying, drug abuse, and vandalism. Looking ahead, the Ministry plans to expand the platform with audio-visual content and artificial intelligence tools for greater reach and engagement through social media.

In addition, preparations for a national competition to discover exceptional talents in Quran recitation and religious chants were reviewed. This initiative underscores Egypt’s leading role in religious arts and its commitment to nurturing outstanding voices.

President El-Sisi concluded the meeting by calling for continuous cooperation with relevant authorities to strengthen the skills of religious leaders, develop communication tools to address extremism, and reinforce public understanding of contemporary challenges.
