Egypt condemns Israeli approval of 19 new West Bank settlements

The Egyptian government has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s continued settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, following the recent approval to authorize and establish 19 new settlements in the West Bank.

In a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt described Israel’s actions as “a flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions,” which affirm the illegality of settlements established in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of all forms of settlement expansion, stressing that such measures represent a significant obstacle to achieving a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Egypt called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by taking effective action to halt these violations and to protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The statement concluded by emphasizing the importance of reviving the political process in order to achieve a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East.
