IAEA General Conference passes resolution to boost technical assistance for Palestine
VIENNA — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference today adopted a decisive resolution to strengthen technical support for Palestine, particularly for the embattled Gaza Strip. The decision came during the Agency’s 69th General Conference, convened in the Austrian capital, Vienna.
Proposed by the Arab Group under the leadership of Egypt, and on behalf of the State of Palestine, the resolution received overwhelming support, with 93 countries voting in favor. This broad backing from member states clearly demonstrates the international community’s recognition of the IAEA’s pivotal role in addressing the severe humanitarian impact resulting from recent Israeli military actions in Gaza, which have caused extensive devastation to health and public infrastructure, including hospitals and medical centers.
The measure reflects ongoing efforts by Egypt and other Arab states to rally international support for the reconstruction of Gaza through global and United Nations agencies, particularly in the critical sectors of energy, health, and agriculture. By passing today’s resolution, IAEA member states reaffirmed their commitment to helping Palestinian people cope with the aftermath of the conflict, and to rebuilding Gaza through targeted technical assistance—especially in the healthcare and agriculture sectors, which remain vital for community recovery and resilience.
The resolution highlights the IAEA’s dedication to providing essential expertise and capacity-building, helping to address urgent humanitarian needs and foster long-term development in Gaza and across Palestine.
