Egypt responds to reports on troop presence in Sinai
The State Information Service (SIS) of Egypt has issued an official statement addressing recent reports in various international media outlets regarding the presence of Egyptian armed forces in the Sinai Peninsula.
The SIS clarified that the deployment of Egyptian forces in Sinai is primarily aimed at securing the nation's borders against all forms of threats, including terrorism and smuggling.
The statement emphasized that these activities are conducted in accordance with prior coordination with all parties to the peace treaty, to which Egypt remains firmly committed. Throughout its history, the Egyptian government noted, it has scrupulously honored all its agreements and treaties.
The statement also reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position on the situation in Gaza. Egypt strongly opposes any expansion of military operations in the Gaza Strip and the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland. Furthermore, the Egyptian government reaffirmed its unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
