‘A History of Arab Graphic Design’ now available in Arabic
The American University in Cairo Press (AUC Press) has just released the Arabic edition of the acclaimed book “A History of Arab Graphic Design”, opening up this landmark resource to Arabic-speaking readers worldwide.
Co-authored by Bahia Shehab, a professor and founder of AUC’s graphic design program, and Haytham Nawar, associate professor of design, the book traces the evolution of graphic design in the Arab world from the early twentieth century to the digital age.
Richly illustrated with more than 600 color images, it sheds light on the creative work of over 80 pioneering designers from Morocco to Iraq, accompanied by rare visuals and in-depth stories about their craft and cultural impact.
Originally published in English in 2020, the book quickly became a reference point for anyone interested in the art and history of Arab graphic design, earning honors such as the PROSE Award for Art History and Criticism.
“We are delighted that this landmark publication is now available for Arabic-language readers and design practitioners everywhere,” said Nadia al-Naqib, director of editorial acquisitions at AUC Press.
“This translation significantly expands access to knowledge about Arab graphic design and offers new opportunities for education and dialogue.”
With the launch of the Arabic edition, the AUC Press—a leading academic publisher in the Middle East—continues its commitment to sharing the diverse cultures and creative heritage of the region with the world.
