Egypt courts Australian mining investment at Perth conference
On the sidelines of the prominent Africa Down Under Mining and Energy Conference in Perth, Australia, Egypt’s Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister, Eng. Karim Badawi, engaged with top Australian mining institutions and companies to explore avenues for new investments in Egypt.
The Minister met with Doug Horak, CEO of the Australia-Africa Minerals & Energy Group, which represents over 100 Australian companies operating across more than 30 African nations. Discussions focused on fostering cooperation, sharing expertise, and presenting the diverse investment opportunities in Egypt’s mining sector. Minister Badawi highlighted recent reforms aimed at aligning Egypt’s mining environment with international best practices, emphasizing improved infrastructure and the upcoming launch of the “Egypt Mining Gateway” digital platform to streamline investor decision-making.
Minister Badawi also held talks with senior executives from Nex Metals Explorations Ltd., an Australian firm specializing in gold, copper, and nickel exploration. Both sides discussed the potential for joint gold exploration in Egypt’s mineral-rich zones and agreed to pursue technical collaboration and geological survey projects.
Both the Australia-Africa Minerals & Energy Group and Nex Metals Explorations Ltd. expressed keen interest in Egypt’s more attractive investment climate, with plans for delegations to visit Egypt in September to explore the country’s opportunities firsthand.
These meetings underscore Egypt’s ambition to position itself as a leading destination for global mining investments, capitalizing on its significant geological potential and ongoing regulatory improvements.
