Egypt PM reviews efforts to boost tourism along Holy Family Route

Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting today at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to discuss initiatives aimed at maximizing the tourism potential of the Holy Family Route. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Manal Awad, Acting Minister of Environment and Minister of Local Development, Dr. Mohamed Ismail, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, tourism investor Mr. Mounir Ghabbour, and representatives from relevant authorities. Governors from Cairo, Beheira, Minya, Assiut, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharqia, Gharbia, Port Said, North Sinai, Qalyubia, and Dakahlia joined via video conference.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the meeting builds on previous discussions regarding this significant project. He highlighted proposals presented by leading private-sector tourism institutions for implementing tourism projects linked to reviving the Holy Family Route. Dr. Madbouly praised the quality of these proposals, noting that the current phase focuses on maximizing the benefits of tourism and development projects along the route to attract more visitors.

Dr. Manal Awad reviewed the progress of the Holy Family Route revival project, describing it as a national initiative with religious and global tourism significance. She explained that the project aims to achieve sustainable development in the areas along the route by promoting religious tourism and creating job opportunities through small and medium-sized enterprises tied to tourism activities. Dr. Awad also outlined the development and rehabilitation works completed at various sites along the route and surrounding areas.

The governors shared updates on efforts to enhance the route’s sites across their respective regions, aligning with the state’s goal of reviving the route to boost tourism and foster development.

Mr. Mounir Ghabbour presented several proposals for tourism and development projects aimed at preserving the route’s key locations, documenting the Holy Family’s journey in Egypt, and revitalizing this significant path to increase inbound tourism.

At the meeting’s conclusion, Dr. Madbouly directed officials to prepare feasibility studies for the proposed projects and address any challenges to ensure their success. He underscored the importance of advancing this vital sector to achieve broader national objectives.
