Egypt presents fourth voluntary review of UN sustainable development goals

Egypt presented its fourth Voluntary National Review on progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals at the 2026 High-Level Political Forum in New York, the Planning and Economic Development Ministry said.

Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom unveiled the report, prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, in the presence of Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ehab Awad.

With the publication of the review, Egypt has become one of only 10 countries worldwide to have submitted four such reports, following previous editions in 2016, 2018 and 2021.

The ministry said the report reflected Egypt’s commitment to transparency and regular monitoring of progress towards the 2030 Agenda, despite successive global economic crises and geopolitical tensions.

Rostom said the review demonstrated Egypt’s continued commitment to sustainable development and to strengthening the resilience of its economy.

Its preparation involved government ministries and national institutions, UN agencies, development partners, the private sector, parliament, young people, civil society and academic institutions, the ministry said.

The report assesses progress through four thematic areas: inclusive human development, economic and social development, the environment and climate, and governance and partnerships.

It also outlines Egypt’s priorities for accelerating progress towards the 2030 goals, including structural transformation, greater private-sector participation in growth, investment in human capital, the green transition, climate finance, local development, stronger governance and expanded sustainable financing mechanisms.

The 2026 forum, held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council, is taking place under the theme “Transformative, just, innovative and coordinated actions for a sustainable future for all.”

Thirty-six countries are presenting voluntary national reviews at this year’s forum, including Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Saudi Arabia, Senegal and Switzerland.
