Egypt wins key seats on African Organization for Standardization

In a significant achievement on the international stage, Egypt has secured membership on both the Board of Directors and the Standards Management Committee (SMC) of the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO).

The election took place during the 31st General Assembly of ARSO, which saw record participation from representatives of 34 African nations—the highest in the organization’s history.

After intense competition, 12 countries—including Egypt, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—were elected to the Board of Directors. Additionally, six countries were chosen for the Standards Management Committee: Egypt, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

This year’s gathering also marked several milestones. Mr. Botsele Kebabtsie was appointed as the new President of ARSO for the 2025–2028 term, succeeding Professor Alex Dodoo. Furthermore, The Gambia joined ARSO, bringing total membership to 44 African countries.

Dr. Khaled Soufi, Head of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, expressed pride in this accomplishment, stating, "This achievement reflects Africa’s trust in Egyptian expertise and emphasizes Egypt's pioneering role in supporting quality infrastructure at the continental level."

He noted that Egypt’s membership in both the Board and SMC will enhance the nation’s ability to shape regional standards policies and foster industrial and commercial cooperation, supporting the goals of sustainable development and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
