Egypt’s President hosts Spanish royals at the Pyramids

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar El-Sisi warmly welcomed King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain at an elegant dinner held near the iconic Pyramids of Giza on Wednesday, as part of the Spanish monarchs’ official state visit to Egypt.

The event celebrated the strengthening partnership between Spain and Egypt, with President El-Sisi expressing his appreciation for the royal visit, calling it a significant boost to the evolving strategic relationship between the two countries. King Felipe VI thanked President El-Sisi for the generous hospitality extended to him, Queen Letizia, and the Spanish delegation since their arrival in Cairo. The King also expressed enthusiasm over the positive outcomes of his talks earlier in the day, which he said would further enhance cooperation across a range of bilateral interests.

The discussion during the evening touched on economic and investment collaboration, with both leaders highlighting the importance of expanding cultural, educational, and academic exchange. President El-Sisi noted the long-standing cultural ties dating back to the 1960s and underscored the value of joint cultural and artistic initiatives, particularly in the fields of heritage and archaeology.

Tourism was also high on the agenda. Both sides acknowledged the unique attractions in their countries and discussed steps to boost tourism flows between Spain and Egypt, especially with the anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Following the dinner, President El-Sisi and the First Lady accompanied King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia on a guided tour of the Pyramids and the Sphinx. The two couples paused for commemorative photographs, with the Spanish royals learning more about the Sphinx’s fascinating history and cultural significance.

This historic visit reflects a shared commitment to deepening friendship and collaboration between Spain and Egypt, paving the way for peace, prosperity, and greater people-to-people connection.
