Sisi urges stronger global governance of AI at G7 Summit
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi on Wednesday joined a session on ensuring the safe, rapid and effective rollout of artificial intelligence during the G7 summit in Evian, France, the presidency said.
Participants — including world leaders and heads of major technology companies — stressed that AI has become deeply embedded in nearly all areas of life, offering both significant opportunities and serious risks, the presidential spokesperson said. They highlighted the need for clear national roadmaps, legal frameworks and digital‑transformation strategies, as well as stronger international coordination in the field.
They also underlined the urgency of advancing AI governance and capacity‑building to keep pace with the technology’s fast‑moving development.
According to presidential spokesperson Mohamed El‑Shenawy, speakers warned of the security, social, ethical and information‑related risks associated with AI, particularly in the absence of international governance mechanisms. Such gaps, they said, could undermine state sovereignty, limit the benefits of the digital revolution and widen existing inequalities — not only within societies but also between developed and developing countries.
Participants called for intensified global cooperation, including public‑private partnerships, to mitigate these risks and maximise AI’s potential benefits.
Sisi, for his part, emphasised the importance of strengthening AI governance. He noted that the development of artificial intelligence is a natural and ongoing process, adding that “humanity is still in its infancy in this field.” He stressed the need to confront and avoid the risks posed by the technology, the spokesperson said.
