President Sisi welcomes S. Korean envoy, pledges stronger bilateral cooperation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Mr. Park Beom-ki, the Special Envoy of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, in Cairo today.

The meeting, attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the South Korean Ambassador to Egypt, comes as both countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

According to an official statement from the Egyptian Presidency, President Sisi received a letter from South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung.

The letter expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support of peace efforts on the Korean Peninsula and conveyed President Lee’s aspirations for a future meeting with President Sisi at the earliest opportunity. Mr. Park also conveyed warm greetings from the South Korean President.

President Sisi warmly welcomed the South Korean delegation, congratulated President Lee on his election (effective June 2025), and expressed his eagerness to host the South Korean leader in Cairo soon. The discussions reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing their partnership across various sectors.

Presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohammed El-Shinawy highlighted the significant progress in Egypt–South Korea relations in recent years. President Sisi praised South Korea as a key economic partner and commended its impressive development model. He emphasized the importance of expanding Korean investments in Egypt, citing the country's growing stability, competitive advantages, and broad access to Arab and African markets via free trade agreements.

The meeting also addressed pressing regional developments. President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on the conflict in Gaza, urging countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so as a crucial step towards advancing the two-state solution—viewed as the only path to lasting peace and stability in the region.

The talks underscored the shared ambition of Egypt and South Korea to deepen their partnership and tackle both economic and regional challenges together.
