Egypt’s Sisi reviews endowment asset plans, historic Cairo restoration

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi on Saturday held a meeting with senior officials to review plans for developing state‑owned endowment assets and ongoing efforts to renovate historic Cairo, the presidency said.

Sisi met with Awqaf Minister Osama Al‑Azharry, presidential adviser for urban planning Amir Sayed Ahmed, Armed Forces Financial Authority chief Khaled Abdullah and Armed Forces Engineering Authority head Walid Aref at the Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

Presidential spokesman Mohamed El‑Shenawy said Sisi examined the Endowments Authority’s strategy to upgrade its real estate portfolio and expand cooperation with specialised companies and property developers. The aim, he said, is to strengthen investment mechanisms and introduce new sectors for development.

The meeting also reviewed progress in restoring historic Cairo’s buildings and infrastructure. Sisi instructed officials to prioritise the project and to survey and rehabilitate all relevant structures “to the highest standards,” with the goal of transforming the district into a world‑class cultural and tourist destination.

The Awqaf Minister presented efforts to document and map all assets managed by the authority, including work with state bodies to create an accurate digital registry. He also outlined new investment opportunities the authority is preparing to offer.

Sisi stressed the need to continue cataloguing and maximising the use of endowment assets to ensure their optimal and sustainable investment, saying this would bolster their contribution to the national economy.
