Sudan and Egypt deepen ties: Prime Ministers hold historic talks in Cairo
In a significant step toward furthering friendship and collaboration, Sudan’s Transitional Prime Minister, Professor Kamil Al-Tayeb Idris, arrived in Cairo for an official visit at the invitation of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly.
The visit underscores the longstanding bonds between the two neighboring nations and sets the stage for increased cooperation across a wide range of fields.
Joined by a high-level delegation from Sudan, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Culture, Information, and Tourism, Professor Idris engaged in extensive talks with Egyptian leaders. The meetings focused on strengthening political, economic, developmental, and social partnerships, with both sides welcoming the opportunity to build on their shared history and vision for the future.
During the talks, Egypt reaffirmed its strong support for Sudan’s transitional government, emphasizing respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and the resilience of its national institutions. Egyptian leaders stressed their solidarity with the Sudanese people as they work toward stability, prosperity, and reconstruction.
In a spirit of collaboration, the Sudanese delegation expressed heartfelt gratitude for Egypt’s consistent support and the two countries’ shared values. Sudan affirmed its readiness to develop new joint initiatives destined to take the partnership to even greater heights.
The leaders agreed to accelerate the work of joint committees, aimed at expanding investment opportunities—particularly in key sectors necessary for Sudan’s reconstruction, such as transportation and energy. They highlighted impressive progress in railway connections and electrical grid integration, which promise to boost both commerce and daily life for citizens of both countries.
Health, education, and workforce development were also central to the discussions. Both governments pledged to work together on improving disease control, bringing specialized Egyptian medical teams to Sudan, and enhancing training for Sudanese healthcare workers. Plans are underway to streamline the approval of Egyptian pharmaceuticals in Sudan, ensuring access to vital medicines.
Looking to the future, the two countries agreed to launch new vocational and technical training programs and renew cooperation in higher education and research. Officials from both cabinets will forge closer ties to promote human development and essential reforms.
On the topic of regional security, Sudan and Egypt underscored their commitment to stability, particularly around the Red Sea. The leaders presented a united front regarding ongoing challenges surrounding the Blue Nile and accentuated the importance of cooperation through existing agreements to secure the river’s sustainability and fair management.
At the close of this historic visit, Professor Idris warmly invited Dr. Madbouly to Sudan for further dialogue—a gesture graciously accepted by the Egyptian Prime Minister. Both leaders left the meetings with renewed resolve to pursue comprehensive integration and ensure a brighter, more prosperous future for their peoples.
