Elon Musk launches America Party amid fallout with Trump
WASHINGTON — Elon Musk has unveiled plans to establish a new political party in the United States, just weeks after a public dispute with President Donald Trump, according to Euronews.
Taking to his social media platform X, the billionaire entrepreneur announced the creation of the “America Party,” which he described as an initiative to “give you back your freedom.”
Musk stated that his party aims to challenge the dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties. While it remains uncertain if the America Party has been formally registered with election authorities, Musk indicated that an official launch is planned for “next year.”
The announcement follows Musk’s July 4 poll, where he asked his followers if he should start a political party.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk wrote. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”
Musk initially showed support for Trump’s re-election campaign, both through public endorsements on X and financial contributions. He also held a high-profile position in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a US government body.
However, in May, Musk announced his departure from DOGE, saying he had completed his “scheduled time” as a special government employee. Trump praised Musk afterward, calling him “one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced.”
Their relationship soured on May 22, after the US House of Representatives passed a sweeping tax-cut and spending bill, which Trump signed into law. The legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” seeks to expedite spending policies and introduces numerous changes—including tax cuts and alterations to social benefits like healthcare.
Musk condemned the bill as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and labeled it “a disgusting abomination.” He argued that its provisions would significantly increase the “already gigantic budget deficit” and further encumber American citizens with “crushingly unsustainable debt.”
Earlier this week, Trump threatened to eliminate the multi-billion dollar federal subsidies supporting Musk’s companies and even suggested considering Musk’s deportation.
