Egypt shuts down fake website selling GEM tickets

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced today that it has successfully closed down a fraudulent website that was illegally selling tickets to the recently opened Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

In an official statement, the ministry emphasised its commitment to protecting visitors' rights and ensuring secure, reliable services.

The fake site was detected recently, and immediate action was taken upon notification. Legal measures were promptly initiated, including coordination with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority and other relevant bodies, leading to the site's shutdown.

CEO of the GEM Authority, Ahmed Ghoneim, reiterated that visit-gem.com is the only official and authorized platform for purchasing GEM tickets. No other websites are permitted to sell tickets or offer booking services for the museum.

Visitors, both Egyptian and international, are urged to rely exclusively on this official site for accurate information and secure transactions. The ministry warned against dealing with any unauthorized platforms claiming to sell GEM entry tickets, as they are fraudulent and unrelated to the museum.

The GEM administration continues to monitor the internet for any violating sites impersonating the museum and will take legal action to close them down.

The GEM, the world's largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilisation, fully opened to the public in November and has attracted significant attention with its vast collection of over 100,000 artifacts.
