Egypt, Chinese cruise company discuss boosting Nile tourism
Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Sherif Fathy, met today in Cairo with Mr. Peng Jianhu, Chairman of China’s Gaund Holding—a global leader in the construction, operation, and management of river and sea cruise ships—to discuss joint cooperation aimed at enhancing Nile cruise tourism in Egypt.
Minister Fathy welcomed the Chinese delegation and congratulated the company on the establishment of its new branch in Egypt.
He emphasized the country’s commitment to developing its Nile tourism product as part of a strategy to showcase Egypt’s diverse tourism offerings and position it as a top global destination.
Highlighting the growing number of visitors from China, the Minister reaffirmed the significance of the Chinese market for Egyptian tourism and expressed hopes for continued growth in the coming years.
Mr. Peng Jianhu outlined Gaund Holding’s impressive track record and revealed the company’s interest in forging a long-term strategic partnership to develop Nile tourism.
Plans include building and operating a series of eco-friendly floating hotels equipped with the latest technology, drawing from extensive global experience. The company has already initiated steps to launch its first floating hotel in Egypt, with ambitions to reach five such vessels in the initial phase.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Fathy invited Gaund Holding to submit a detailed proposal outlining its vision and implementation plan for Nile tourism development in Egypt. He affirmed the ministry’s readiness to collaborate for the benefit of both sides and the advancement of this promising tourism sector.
