Turkish ambassador highlights olive oil ties between Turkey and Egypt

Turkey’s ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Şen has spotlighted the cultural and economic significance of olive oil for both countries, emphasizing shared traditions and growing cooperation in the sector.

In a message shared on social media, the ambassador noted the mention of olives and Mount Sinai in the Surah Tin, underscoring the deep roots of olive cultivation in the region.

He described olives, olive oil, and cheese as the pillars of a traditional Turkish breakfast, and praised the quality of olive oil produced in Egypt’s North Sinai—particularly in Arish—calling it “authentic and a source of healing.”

The ambassador recently presented certificates and medals to Egyptian olive oil producers at a ceremony organized by the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Industry, alongside Cairo Governor Mr. Ibrahim Saber. The awards recognize producers whose olive oil had previously been honored in Istanbul.

Drawing on his experience overseeing matters with the International Olive Oil Council, the ambassador said Turkey, as the world’s fourth-largest olive oil producer, sees great potential in Egypt’s dedicated and award-winning farmers. He expressed confidence that Egypt would “claim its rightful place in the olive oil market, where global demand continues to grow.”

The event highlights increasing agricultural collaboration and the strengthening of commercial ties between Turkey and Egypt, as both nations work to expand their presence in the global olive oil market.
