China urges real ceasefire and de-escalation in Middle East, backs Iran’s sovereignty
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for a genuine ceasefire and rapid de-escalation in the Middle East, emphasizing China’s support for Iran’s efforts to protect its sovereignty and national security.
Speaking on Tuesday during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Wang stressed the urgency of restoring normal life for civilians and calming the situation “as soon as possible.”
Minister Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, affirmed China's readiness to support the United Nations Security Council in fulfilling its responsibility to uphold peace and international stability.
Wang also voiced hope that Iran would continue to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions, and diplomatic missions in the region.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi condemned recent actions by Israel and the United States targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, calling them a grave violation of international law. Araghchi stated that such operations leave Iran with no option but to respond, and that true negotiations can only begin if Israel ceases its aggression.
He expressed Iran's readiness to maintain close communication with China and called for a greater Chinese role in reducing tensions in the Middle East.
