Egypt and Angola discuss enhanced cooperation in civil aviation
Montreal, Canada – On the sidelines of the 42nd General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, met with Dr. Ricardo Viegas D'Abreu, Angola’s Minister of Transport, accompanied by his delegation.
The meeting focused on expanding regional cooperation between Egypt and Angola in various civil aviation sectors, including enhancing air safety, air cargo, maintenance, training, and airport infrastructure development. Discussions also covered aligning legislative frameworks with ICAO standards to support regional integration efforts.
The Angolan Minister highlighted ongoing airport development projects in Angola, while Dr. El-Hefny outlined Egypt’s plans to modernize its airport infrastructure in collaboration with the private sector. He emphasized Egypt’s political leadership’s commitment to supporting African nations, particularly in civil aviation, by sharing technical expertise in training, maintenance, air cargo, and infrastructure development. Dr. El-Hefny reiterated Egypt’s dedication to strengthening coordination with Angola and fostering regional partnerships to enhance Africa’s civil aviation system and its global standing.
Dr. D'Abreu praised Egypt’s leading role in advancing civil aviation regionally and internationally, expressing Angola’s support for Egypt’s candidacy for a seat on the ICAO Council. He stressed the importance of continued bilateral and regional coordination to bolster partnerships and drive economic growth. Additionally, he invited Dr. El-Hefny to attend the Luanda International Fair (FILDA) in July to further strengthen cooperation in civil aviation and trade.
