Russia: Multiple nations prepared to arm Iran with nuclear weapons
Senior Russian official Dmitry Medvedev asserted on Sunday that several countries stand ready to provide Iran with nuclear weapons in direct response to recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, AA reported.
“A number of countries are prepared to supply Iran with their own nuclear weapons,” said Medvedev, who serves as deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, in a statement shared on Telegram.
His remarks followed closely after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American forces had struck Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—an escalation in the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel.
According to Medvedev, the targeted facilities suffered little to no substantial damage, and he predicted that Iran's uranium enrichment and nuclear weapons development efforts would likely persist.
Russia further stated that the “majority of countries” oppose the actions taken by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. Medvedev cautioned that Washington is being drawn into another major confrontation, this time with the potential for a ground war. He argued that the Iranian leadership has emerged more politically resilient as a result of these attacks.
“The people are rallying around the spiritual leaders—even those who were not previously supportive,” he noted.
He criticized Trump for engaging in yet another conflict after running as a “peacemaker,” dismissing the possibility of the U.S. president ever receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Medvedev asserted that “the overwhelming majority of countries” are against both U.S. and Israeli military actions.
The latest U.S. strikes followed heightened Israeli military operations against Iran that began on June 13, prompting Tehran to launch missile salvos on Israeli cities and military installations in retaliation.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, at least 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 injured as a result of Israeli attacks. Israeli authorities reported 25 fatalities and several hundred injuries from the Iranian counterattacks.
