Egypt eyes Chinese tech for desalination boost
Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbini hosted a delegation from China’s Jiangsu Fengcai today to explore seawater desalination partnerships, joined by ministry and utilities officials.
The minister detailed Egypt’s strategy: expanding capacity with plants producing up to 500,000 cubic meters daily, which the company is keen to build; slashing costs through cutting-edge tech and renewables, backed by its R&D center and equipment manufacturing; and localizing the industry via a feasibility study for a spare-parts factory in Egypt within two years.
The Chinese team pledged to share advanced expertise suited to Egypt’s waters, integrate renewable energy, and collaborate with local firms.
