Egypt signs deals on industrial cooperation, technology transfer in Africa
Egypt’s state-owned National Authority for Military Production signed two memorandums of understanding with Arab Contractors and business consultancy Masar on Tuesday to expand joint manufacturing and pursue industrial and marketing opportunities in Africa, the ministry said.
The agreements were signed at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital in the presence of Minister of State for Military Production Salah Soliman Gambalat and officials from the three organisations.
One memorandum provides for joint manufacturing and project work between Helwan Diesel Engines Company, a military production affiliate, and Arab Contractors. Potential products include generators, electrical distribution panels, lighting towers, air compressors, welding machines, water pumps and equipment spare parts, the ministry said.
The second agreement aims to broaden industrial and marketing cooperation in African countries, including exports of Egyptian products, technology transfer, technical services and exchanges of expertise. It also provides for joint manufacturing and workforce training.
Gambalat said the agreements would help deepen local manufacturing, make better use of industrial and engineering capabilities and increase the value added to Egyptian products.
Arab Contractors chairman Ahmed El-Assar said the company sought to build on both sides’ expertise and expand into African markets. Masar founder and managing director Ahmed El-Assar said the three-way partnership could support domestic manufacturing and add value to the national economy.
