EU Parliament approves €4 billion financial support tranche for Egypt

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, has expressed sincere appreciation for the European Parliament’s strong endorsement of the second tranche of the European Union’s financial support package to Egypt.

In a phone call with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Dr. Abdelatty highlighted that the European lawmakers’ final approval—passed by a wide majority during a plenary session in Strasbourg—demonstrates Europe’s deep respect for the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the EU, as well as the enduring strength of their relations. The newly approved tranche amounts to €4 billion.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to advancing wide-ranging strategic cooperation with the EU in all sectors.

During the conversation, President Metsola conveyed her deep respect for Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and praised Egypt’s balanced leadership, particularly during times of regional turmoil. She stated the European Parliament’s vote reflects the EU’s recognition of Egypt’s vital role in supporting peace and stability in the region.

The call also included an exchange of views on fast-moving regional developments. Dr. Abdelatty briefed President Metsola on Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent the spread of conflict in the region, stressing the importance of returning to negotiations as the only path to a sustainable agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

The new financial package, as part of broader EU-Egypt cooperation, aims to boost Egypt’s economic stability and support development, especially as both sides work closely on shared priorities, including migration, security, and regional peace.
