Grand Egyptian Museum signs landmark partnership for smart visitor experience

Egypt is taking a significant step into the future of cultural tourism with a groundbreaking partnership announced today at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.

In a ceremony attended by Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Sherif Fathy, and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, the museum’s service operator, Legacy Development and Management, signed a strategic agreement with Vodafone Egypt, officially naming Vodafone the museum’s exclusive technology partner.

Through this collaboration, the Grand Egyptian Museum—already the world’s largest archaeological institution dedicated to a single civilization—will implement an integrated smart platform based on Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. This platform will connect and streamline the museum’s key operations, from lighting and elevators to ticketing and visitor management, offering guests a seamless, state-of-the-art experience that honors Egypt’s ancient heritage while embracing the latest in digital innovation.

Museum leaders say the new system is not only designed to enhance comfort and convenience for millions of visitors from around the world but also to improve energy efficiency and sustainability, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The platform’s flexible architecture will allow the museum to grow and adopt new technologies in the years ahead.

At the signing event, Minister Fathy emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to elevate the visitor experience and position Egypt as a global leader in both cultural preservation and innovation. “The Grand Egyptian Museum is a source of pride for all Egyptians, offering both a window into our rich past and a model for the future,” he said.

Minister Talaat highlighted the government’s commitment to digital transformation in all sectors, noting that the smart museum platform will boost the museum’s global status and provide new ways for guests to discover the treasures of Egyptian civilization.

Vodafone Egypt executives echoed these sentiments. “With this partnership, we are proud to unite Egypt’s ancient glory with tomorrow’s technology, supporting digital transformation and showcasing Egyptian identity on a world stage,” said Mohamed Abdallah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt.

Meryt Elsayed, CEO of Legacy Development and Management, shared her excitement about the museum setting new standards for smart, interactive cultural experiences in the Middle East and beyond.

Today’s agreement was also celebrated by the museum’s director and representatives of Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Communications.

The Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the iconic Pyramids of Giza, is set to become a beacon of both human history and digital progress. Visitors can look forward to a truly exceptional journey—one that connects past, present, and future under the gaze of Egypt’s timeless monuments.
