Egypt launches first-of-its-kind smart medical equipment app
In a groundbreaking move that underlines Egypt's commitment to digital innovation and quality in healthcare, the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), led by Professor Dr. Ahmed Taha, has announced the launch of a pioneering smart application.
This platform, the first of its kind both regionally and internationally, is designed to streamline the identification and management of medical equipment standards across hospitals of all types.
Developed in alignment with Egypt's Vision 2030 — which places strong emphasis on building a robust, effective, and sustainable healthcare system — the new app leverages the National Medical Equipment Guide, created in partnership with the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Supply, and Medical Technology Management.
Dr. Taha emphasized that this strategic technological advance reinforces Egypt’s leadership in integrating smart digital solutions into its healthcare infrastructure. The app offers a significant leap forward for planning and managing hospital resources, benefitting new, existing, and accredited facilities alike.
"This era demands clear priorities, efficient spending, and maximizing the value of available resources," Dr. Taha noted. "Our new application supports data-driven health investment and builds international confidence in the efficiency and quality of Egypt’s healthcare system."
The application equips hospitals to rapidly and efficiently comply with quality and patient safety standards, using a tailored tool that factors in each facility’s specific needs—such as department size, number of rooms, and bed count. This boosts planning efficiency, ensures optimal resource allocation, and reduces wasteful spending.
The app’s innovative design and development were accomplished entirely by local experts in GAHAR’s Information Systems and Digital Transformation Division, showcasing Egypt’s homegrown capabilities in advanced health tech solutions.
The announcement took place during a high-profile session entitled “Medical Equipment and Accreditation: Ensuring Safety, Performance, and Value” at Africa Health ExCon 2025, attended by leading regional and international healthcare figures.
International visitors at Egypt’s Africa Health ExCon were able to experience the new application firsthand, exploring its user-friendly interface and robust capabilities for managing hospital equipment standards.
This remarkable achievement reiterates Egypt’s ongoing drive to harness technology for better healthcare and a healthy, sustainable future for all.
