Egypt raises cigarette prices amid higher taxes, costs
Egypt has announced new price increases for both local and foreign cigarette brands, reflecting higher production costs and increased taxes on tobacco products.
Starting July 1, 2025, the following retail prices apply to popular brands:
- Winston (Blue, Silver, Caster): 67 Egyptian pounds per pack
- Winston Expand: 69 pounds
- Camel Yellow/Blue: 73 pounds
- Camel Activate: 76 pounds
Earlier, prices for these brands ranged from 60 to 68 pounds per pack.
For foreign brands under Philip Morris:
- Merit: 105 pounds per pack
- Marlboro: 97 pounds
- Marlboro Crafted: 79 pounds
- L&M: 76 pounds
These increases follow a series of adjustments made in recent years, mostly due to higher production and transport costs as well as new government tax measures.
Egyptian authorities say the move aims to generate more tax revenue and help curb smoking rates in the country. Tobacco taxes are considered a significant source of government income in Egypt.
