Shimmer of Silver: A timeless art unveiled at Sharm El-Sheikh Museum

The Sharm El-Sheikh Museum recently launched a captivating temporary exhibition titled Shimmer of Silver: A Timeless Art Through the Ages in its Civilizations Hall. Running for six months, the exhibition showcases over 80 rare artifacts that trace the evolution of silver craftsmanship in Egypt across various historical periods, alongside an extensive collection of ancient coins.

The opening ceremony was graced by Major General Dr. Khaled Mubarak, Governor of South Sinai, and Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women. They were warmly received by Eng. Miriam Edward, the museum’s General Supervisor, who welcomed the guests and guided them through the exhibition halls.

The display features an exquisite array of silver jewelry, vessels, and coins, including a remarkable necklace from the 18th Dynasty of the New Kingdom and a collection of 742 diverse ancient coins, encompassing Roman, Abbasid, and Ottoman currencies. Among the standout pieces from the Muhammad Ali dynasty are a lighter belonging to Princess Fawzia, intricately decorated cigarette cases, and articulated fish-shaped silver objects, showcasing the luxurious artistry of the era.

Eng. Miriam Edward emphasized that the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to highlight the artistic and symbolic significance of silver, reflecting the ingenuity of Egyptian artisans in crafting jewelry, coins, and royal artifacts across centuries.

At the conclusion of the tour, distinguished guests recorded their remarks in the museum’s VIP guestbook, expressing their admiration for the exhibition’s exceptional content and its comprehensive portrayal of Egypt’s profound cultural and historical heritage.
