Egyptian and EU officials discuss Gaza developments and regional de-escalation
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone call with Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Tuesday, July 8th, to consult on regional developments.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions included an exchange of views on recent events in the Gaza Strip.
Minister Abdelatty briefed the EU official on the latest regarding ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and the release of hostages and detainees, outlining Egypt’s mediation efforts in coordination with Qatar and the United States. He stressed the urgent need to intensify international efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire and to deliver vital humanitarian and relief aid.
Ms. Kallas shared the European Union’s perspective, highlighting the acute humanitarian situation in Gaza and the importance of resuming UN mechanisms for humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Ambassador Khalaf also noted that the conversation included a substantive discussion on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of upholding the agreement, calming tensions, and resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
Both parties also discussed the crucial role of the E3 group (France, Germany, and the United Kingdom) in supporting negotiations aimed at a comprehensive resolution that addresses all concerns and contributes to de-escalation in the region.
