Suez Canal Authority explores expanded collaboration with Turkish shipping line ALCOR

ISMAILIA – The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is boosting its efforts to attract international maritime traffic, holding high-level talks today with Turkish shipping line ALCOR and leading Egyptian maritime officials to explore increasing the company’s transits through the vital waterway.

SCA Chairman Admiral Osama Rabie hosted Mr. Mohammed El-Messilhy, Chairman of Arkas Egypt Shipping Agencies and of the Alexandria Chamber of Shipping, along with Mr. Ali Bekmezci, President of ALCOR Line, at the SCA headquarters in Ismailia to discuss joint strategies for bringing more ALCOR vessels—and broader petroleum and dry bulk traffic—back to the Suez Canal, particularly for routes connecting Europe and Asia.

According to an SCA statement, the meeting focused on developing mechanisms for closer cooperation between ALCOR and the SCA’s affiliated shipyards and service companies for vessel maintenance and repairs. Admiral Rabie emphasized the Authority’s commitment to maintaining direct and effective communication with clients, responding flexibly to the changing dynamics of the maritime industry, and prioritizing mutual benefit.

Admiral Rabie also highlighted a package of new, flexible incentives and expanded logistical and navigation services recently introduced to encourage more vessels to use the Suez Canal in the face of ongoing global shipping challenges.

Mr. Bekmezci expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership with the Suez Canal and confirmed ALCOR’s intent to increase its future transits, while also making use of the SCA’s shipyard services for the maintenance and repair of its fleet.

Mr. El-Messilhy noted that this spirit of openness and cooperation is crucial for ensuring stable, strategic relations with global shipping companies under current market pressures, and praised the SCA’s drive to broaden and diversify its maritime and logistical services as a way to enhance operational efficiency for canal users.

The Suez Canal remains a critical artery for global trade, with ongoing initiatives to strengthen partnerships, improve services, and meet evolving industry demands amid regional and international developments.
