President Sisi welcomes Prince Rahim Aga Khan
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), in his first official visit to Egypt since assuming his role earlier this year.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, and Mr. Luis Monreal, Director-General of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
President El-Sisi warmly congratulated Prince Rahim on his new position and praised the longstanding global contributions of his late father, Prince Karim Aga Khan. The President highlighted AKDN’s important work in promoting economic, social, and environmental development worldwide, as well as preserving Islamic cultural heritage.
The President expressed his appreciation for AKDN’s historic partnership with Egypt, which has supported development efforts, improved quality of life in various regions, and played a vital role in the restoration and conservation of Egypt’s Islamic heritage.
The discussion included an overview of Egypt’s key national initiatives under Egypt Vision 2030, including the “Decent Life” program, the “100 Million Health” campaign, and the “Bidaya” human development initiative. These projects focus on enhancing essential services and investing in people through education, skill-building, and community empowerment. President El-Sisi and Prince Rahim also explored new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the revitalization and restoration of historic districts throughout Egypt.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan expressed his deep respect for President El-Sisi and Egypt’s regional and international standing. He reaffirmed AKDN’s commitment to partnering with the Egyptian government to advance inclusive development—especially in education, agriculture, and climate adaptation, with a focus on Upper Egypt. Prince Rahim emphasized the importance of leveraging AKDN’s experience in urban and environmental renewal in Cairo and other contexts, and commended Egypt’s progress in human development.
Prince Rahim noted that investing in people is key to prosperity and sustainable growth, underscoring AKDN’s eagerness to support Egypt’s journey towards a better future for all.
