Egypt’s President calls for a stronger United Nations in 80th anniversary address
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered a recorded address to mark the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, underscoring Egypt’s pride as a founding member and its ongoing commitment to international peace and security.
President El-Sisi emphasized the need to develop and reform the United Nations so it can better address today’s unprecedented global challenges. He called for change that respects international law and avoids double standards, and praised the UN Secretary-General’s efforts toward organizational reform.
Highlighting the UN’s vital role in international peace, sustainable development, and human rights, President El-Sisi urged the organization to play a greater part in mediating peace in the Middle East and addressing critical global issues such as climate change and water scarcity.
As a sign of Egypt’s firm support for the UN, President El-Sisi announced the opening of a new complex for UN regional and country offices in Egypt’s new administrative capital.
Concluding his speech, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s enduring commitment to the UN’s mission and expressed appreciation to all who have contributed to the organization’s journey over the past eight decades.
