Egypt inaugurates region’s first international platform to commercialize research and innovation

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today patronized the official launch of the International Research Commercialization Expo (IRC EXPO 2025), a landmark two-day event (11–12 December) aimed at transforming scientific research outputs into marketable products and attracting global investment.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly headed the opening ceremony alongside a high-level government delegation that included Deputy Prime Ministers Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Kamel El-Wazir, as well as ministers of military production, communications and IT, electricity and renewable energy, manpower, and public business sector.

In remarks delivered on behalf of the President, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour described the expo as “a strategic leap toward a knowledge-based economy,” emphasizing that presidential patronage reflects Egypt’s unwavering commitment to positioning scientific research as the primary driver of industrial growth and foreign investment.

“Hosting this global event in the New Administrative Capital signals that Egypt has transitioned from a technology consumer to technology producer and exporter,” Ashour said, adding that the expo will create advanced international networking mechanisms linking researchers directly with multinational corporations, investors, and decision-makers.

Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Gina El-Feky announced that more than 200 senior delegates from over 80 countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa are participating, including government officials, CEOs of global companies, university presidents, research institute directors, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs.

The event will feature the signing of bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements, the launch of joint technology initiatives, high-level panel discussions, and specialized workshops.

IRC EXPO 2025 – the first platform of its kind in the Middle East and Africa dedicated to research commercialization – focuses on priority sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology and health, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, agricultural technology, cybersecurity, smart cities, and microelectronics.

Ministry spokesperson Adel Abdel Ghaffar underlined that the expo outcomes are expected to directly contribute to technology localization, foreign direct investment inflows, and enhanced competitiveness of Egyptian industry on the global stage.

Organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through ASRT, in partnership with leading Egyptian universities, national research centers, and prominent international organizations, the event is widely seen as a cornerstone of Egypt’s strategy to establish itself as a regional and global hub for innovation and scientific diplomacy.
