Cairo International Book Fair launches smart app
At a recent press conference for the Cairo International Book Fair, Egypt’s Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Youth and Sports unveiled an innovative mobile application designed to enhance visitor experiences and streamline operations at the region’s largest cultural event—all managed by teams of dedicated young volunteers.
The newly launched app is part of the “I Am a Volunteer” program, aiming to digitalize and elevate the fair’s organizational system by leveraging technology and the power of youth participation. The app serves as a comprehensive digital platform, providing users with a range of smart services.
Key features include an interactive map of the exhibition’s publishers, a searchable database for book titles and publisher locations, and a daily agenda highlighting the fair’s cultural events and activities. Visitors can also use the app to locate volunteer stations and information desks and receive notifications to help avoid crowded areas, especially at entry gates.
Designed with safety and support in mind, the application allows attendees to request immediate assistance from volunteers, report issues or emergencies, and even call for medical help—all aimed at ensuring a safer, more organized environment for the millions of expected visitors.
The move to launch the app comes as the Cairo International Book Fair continues to attract ever-growing crowds in recent years. By embracing innovative digital tools and empowering its volunteers, the fair seeks to improve logistical efficiency, visitor satisfaction, and overall event management.
Mostafa Ezz Al-Arab, Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports and founder of the “I Am a Volunteer” initiative at the fair, described the app as a “qualitative leap towards digitizing the book fair experience.” He emphasized that, by integrating the spirit of volunteering with smart technology, the fair is delivering a smoother, more human-centered experience for its diverse, international audience.
